Product Description
K33 - Powerspark Electronic Ignition Kit (Negative Earth) for Lucas D3A4 Distributor
This ignition kit is designed to replace the points and condenser inside the Lucas D3A4 Distributor.
This distributor was fitted as standard to Massey Ferguson MF 35, TEA 20, 135, and TED 20 Tractors.
Some records indicate that the D3A4 was also fitted to other commercial vehicles and passenger cars, Commer, including Nuffield Vehicles, Sewage Vehicles, Coventry Climax Engines, Lansing Bagnall Tractors as well as cars from MG, Morris, Hillman and Ford, however we have not yet come across the D3A4 fitted to any of these cars… but there may still be a chance that your classic car uses a D3A4 distributor.
This Powerspark Electronic Ignition Kit contains everything needed to convert your car from points & condenser to electronic ignition.
Fitting is easy and instructions are included with the packaging, as well as available online and in the video below.

Powerspark Electronic Ignition explained in more detail:
The kit uses a simple magnetic trigger and optimises dwell to provide a reliable and consistent spark across the rev range. It is easy to install and maintenance free.
Each kit comprises a baseplate with electronic module, trigger ring and all wiring. The new electronic baseplate mounts exactly where the points and condenser baseplate sat. The kit connects directly to the coil using the wires provided, red to the positive side and black to the negative side. The ignition kit will automatically shut down if the ignition is left switched on without the engine running to prevent component damage.
Powerspark Electronic Ignition Kits are designed to work with a coil resistance above 1.5 ohms, typically 3.0 ohms. Some performance coils operate at a lower resistance and will need the High Energy electronic ignition kit.
Full fitting instructions are included with your kit, and plenty more instructions can be found on our blog.

Fitting and Use
Fitted this to my 1950 Ferguson TED-20. Took all of 10 minutes and it fired up straight away after lots of trouble starting on the old points/condenser. Those are now in the bin. Easy to fit and does the job of a more reliable ignition.
