K4 & R2 - Powerspark Electronic Ignition Kit (Negative Earth) for Lucas 45D 43D & 59D Distributor
This electronic kit is designed to replace the points and condenser inside a Lucas 43D, 45D or 69D distributor, giving you electronic ignition at the turn of your key.
The Lucas 45D, 43D and 59D and Distributor was fitted to many classic vehicles from Austin, Hillman, Land Rover, MG, Morris, Reliant, Sunbeam, Triumph, Vanden Plas and Wolseley as well as European marques such as Innocenti, Talbot (Matra)
In our video we take a look at the K4 ignition kit for Lucas 45D, the K6 kit for Bosch distributors, the K2 kit for Lucas 25D, K34 kit for Autolite and Prestolite and the K35 for Magneti Marelli distributors as found in the Fiat 500.

- To be used with a coil resistance above 1.5 ohms only

Powerspark Electronic Ignition explained in more detail:
The kit uses a simple magnetic trigger and optimises dwell to provide a reliable and consistent spark across the rev range. It is easy to install and maintenance free.
Each kit comprises a baseplate with electronic module, trigger ring and all wiring. The new electronic baseplate mounts exactly where the points and condenser baseplate sat. The kit connects directly to the coil using the wires provided, red to the positive side and black to the negative side. The ignition kit will automatically shut down if the ignition is left switched on without the engine running to prevent component damage.
Powerspark Electronic Ignition Kits are designed to work with a coil resistance above 1.5 ohms, typically 3.0 ohms. Some performance coils operate at a lower resistance and will need the High Energy electronic ignition kit.

Fitting
Fitting this is not easy if you aren't a competent mechanic etc! Beware of the suggestion that it's simple, straightforward or just two wires etc. You will need some mechanical competence and equipment and the suggestion that this is straightforward or easy simply sin't the case. I have an MG Midget which has about twice as many wires in various places as the instructions and videos suggest! I can't comment on the kit itself because I need a garage to fit it!

Fitted to a Xflow Ford in a Morgan 4/4
First one failed just after warranty. no good will So I fitted new one and OK so far. But I question whether it is superior to Luminition In saying that I have fitted this kit to my 1954 type C Jaguar and it has really worked fine. better than substandard new contacts and condensers from motor factors
